"The Argentinean Jewish community, one of the most vibrant in the Diaspora, is being challenged by an economic situation and distress that is sparing no one," noted Herb Gimelstob, co-chairman of the UJC Argentina Task Force, UJC Vice Chairman and past president of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County (FL).
"We, representing North American Jewry, are in Argentina to determine how best we can help our brethren overcome this challenge."
During the fact-finding trip, the North American delegation will meet with Argentinean Jews preparing to emigrate to Israel facilitated by the Jewish Agency for Israel
(JAFI) with the support of UJC
and the Jewish Federations of North America
.They will also observe humanitarian, job-training and education programs of JAFI
and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee
, with the support of UJC
, designed to meet immediate needs and improve the quality of life of members of the Jewish community remaining in Argentina or awaiting emigration to Israel.
