Henry Xu
Henry Xu was born in 1942 in Shanghai, China. He studied art at the Academy of Arts in Nanjing, China from 1958 to 1962. From 1962 on he worked for the Shanghai Grand Theatre as a stage designer and also as a painter of movie posters for various theatres in Shanghai. In 1985 Xu won 2nd prize in the prestigious "Young Chinese Atrist's" competition. The following year he travelled to Japan for a joint exhibition in Kyoto. Henry and his wife and daughter came to Canada in 1988.

(Bu-Nai Hu, editor, art magazine, Beijing) Born in Shanghai in 1942, Henry Huai Xu studied art at the Academy of Arts in Nanjing, China. After graduating, he worked for the Shanghai Grand Theatre as a stage designer. In 1985 Xu won 2nd prize in the prestigious "Young Chinese Artist's" competition. The following year he went to Japan for his first exhibition in Kyoto. Xu's European travels have had a dramatic effect on his work. Xu explains, "…deep in my heart is always the beauty of Europe...the canals of Venice, the lavender of Provence...they are full of the imagery of history and romance...when I paint, I relive the wonder of my travels…" Henry and his wife came to Canada in 1988 and now reside in Vancouver.
