Dr. Henry Tupper former President of the SBC Foreign Mission Board said, "Our age is the only one in the world's history when God's people have attempted to spread the truth over the face of the earth. This is because ours is the only age in which have existed the providential conditions possible. These conditions are: access to all peoples, means sufficient for enterprise and people that are free."He said this in 1891!Folks, everything Jesus did during His ministry was cutting edge!Because He was not religiously dignified - He came close to being killed. He went to the lepers, to the Samaritans, to sinners! Some at the IRS became His best friends! His method of reaching out was so cutting edge that He was attacked by the religious folks! His message of reaching out was so cutting edge that some thought He was demon possessed!

With the primary encouragement and support of Henry Allen Tupper, corresponding secretary of the Foreign Mission Board of the SBC (1872-1893), bands of faithful women in several southern states did form "Central Committees of Missions" designed to "awaken the missionary spirit among the women of our churches, as well as to direct their zeal for the extension of Christ's kingdom in the world." Tupper was present in Raleigh in April 1877 to assist 18-20 women to organize the Central Committee of Missions for N.C., with Mattie Callendine (Mrs. J.M.) Heck as president and Julia Moore (Mrs. J.C.) Scarborough as corresponding secretary.

In 1888, after a conference with Henry Allen Tupper, secretary of the Foreign Mission Board, Miss Armstrong wrote by hand letters to all the societies, asking them to contribute to the first Christmas offering, which resulted in $2,833.49 for Lottie Moon in China.
