I have read from a few websites various stories about this man,Henry, St Clair, I think his descendant William St Clair built Rosslyn Chapel. Here is the plot ... Henry St Clair a Templar Knight returns to Scotland with several other Templar Knights to avoid the persucution of The Knights Templar by The Catholic Church.King Robert the Bruce is an excommunicated King, for committing murder on Holy ground..so Scotland is as good a place as any if the you are fleeing the power of Rome. They fight alongside King Robert at the Battle of Bannochburn when Scotland won its freedom, remember the final scene of Braveheart. Henry is made Earl of Orkney. Then they find in Orkney an Ancient Viking Map....and set off on an epic sea voyage ..by sight of land ... to Nova Scotia. On his return to Scotland Henry went off to fight and die in battle in , I think Spain. FACT: Henry was made Earl of Orkney

The connection between the Chapel and the village stretches back to the time of Sir Henry St Clair, who succeeded to the title around 1153 and died around 1214.
