AAUW (American Association of University Women) of Escanaba salutes member, Helmi Lepisto, of Rock.
Helmi will leave for the Bahamas at the end of January to start a school for the deaf as part of Christian Missions for the Deaf.
ollowing graduation from Eastern Michigan University in 1954, Helmi taught at the School for the Deaf in Flint, MI. and in public schools in the Upper Peninsula.
She also worked as a Bay Cliff Health Camp counselor in the summers.
retired from teaching in 1991.
Helmi serves on the State Board for the Michigan Association of the Deaf.
