was a scholar at the Department of Immunology at Middlesex Hospital
in London.He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna, and was a research fellow at the Institute of Immunology, University of Vienna.Professor Ludwig went on to become a staff member of the Department of Internal Medicine II at the University of Vienna and has clinical qualifications in the fields of internal medicine, rheumatology, cardiology, endocrinology, diabetology, nephrology and hemodialysis, hematology and oncology.
Dr. Ludwig's major area of scientific activity is in clinical and immunological aspects of multiple myeloma including; epidemiology of myeloma in Austria, genetic aspects of susceptibility to myeloma, Interferon-alpha- phase II studies, Interferon-alpha in combination with VMCP for induction treatment, erythropoietin for treatment of myeloma-associated anemia and ongoing trials with IL-4 and IL-2, to name a few.Dr. Ludwig holds many honors, among them President of the Austrian Forum Against Cancer, President of the Austrian Cancer Association, Council Member of the International Union Against Cancer, and Scientific Advisor to the International Myeloma Foundation.He
has published more than 300 scientific papers, and has written a book Monograph on Multiple Myeloma (Springer Verlag, Heidelberg, New York.He is the editor and also sits on the editorial boards of such publications as; Onkologie-Journal, Aktuelles aus Diagnostik and Therapie, and Annals of Hematology.
