Pro Guitarist Hector Marin | United We Tab Very reluctantly, we will be shutting down United We Tab on August 18th 2012. Hector Marin UWT Musician: Hector Marin Hector Marin began his love of music as a young child, and was particularly fascinated by movie music (Star Wars!) and the orchestral pieces that his parents played at home. Although Hector soon found rock through The Beatles and Pink Floyd, it wasn't until he was a teenager that, after discovering Guns N' Roses and Led Zeppelin, he felt drawn to the guitar. Hector's musical studies began as a teenager in Costa Rica when he started taking private guitar lessons. A year later, he auditioned for the conservatory and was accepted to the University of Costa Rica's school of music. It was there, while studying classical guitar, that Hector's appreciation for classical music grew exponentially, to the point that he developed a great desire to study music composition. While attending the University of Costa Rica, Hector joined the Guitar Orchestra of Costa Rica, where he toured the country, played as a soloist and performed in the International Guitar Festival, sharing the stage with renowned guitarists like Juanjo Dominguez and Jorge Cardozo. Hector then moved to New York, where he concluded his studies at the City College of New York, and earned a BA in music composition. After graduation, he devoted himself entirely to the electric guitar. Hector's favorite artists and bands cover a wide variety of styles and genres. Hector particularly loves J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, The Beatles, Prokovieff, Stravinsky, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Gogol Bordello, Aerosmith and AC/DC. Some of the guitarists that Hector most admires include Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, Jimmy Page, Slash, Juanjo Dominguez, Paco de Lucia, Narciso Yepes and Angus Young. Although all of these artists have amazing technical abilities, Hector also loves their musicality and their taste when creating a musical line, as well as their expressiveness and feel. When not playing guitar, Hector loves reading books about psychology and human behavior, and loves to explore new cultures and learn new interesting things from different situations and people. Since 2005, Hector has been a guitar instructor at the New York City Guitar School and always has a great time working with students and fellow teachers. Hector is also devoted to his rock band, Shot, which has been together for almost four years and regularly performs around New York City.
