Harvey Weissbard Harvey Weissbard is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice Group at Genova, Burns & Giantomasi, in Newark, N.J.
Mr. Weissbard served as a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division for eight years and, prior to that, served as a trial judge in the Criminal Division. Mr. Weissbard has numerous significant published decisions in many different areas of law, including criminal, employment, land use, privacy and torts.
Mr. Weissbard was appointed by the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court as Chairman of the Supreme Court's Committee on the Rules of Evidence and is still an active member. He was also chosen to serve as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Recordation of Custodial Interrogations, which led to a landmark report adopted by the Supreme Court, requiring recordation of law enforcement questioning of criminal suspects.
Prior to his judicial appointment, he sustained a vigorous trial and appellate practice for thirty-five years. He tried numerous civil and criminal cases and also argued many appeals on both the state and federal levels. He was President of the New Jersey Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association and he is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Mr. Weissbard is a graduate of Cornell University, where he majored in physics, and Harvard Law School. After law school, he served two years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Army.
