State Representative Harvey Santana is a native Detroiter who attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Chadsey High School in 1990.
Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he served as a Petty Officer Third Class.

first job as a community organizer for the Census 2000 campaign.

After the census Santana worked for Councilman Kenneth V. Cockrel, Jr. as a legislative assistant.
As an aide to Councilman Cockrel, he

Councilman Cockrel, who was impressed with Santana's desire to serve the public, recommended that he
apply to the Michigan Political Leadership Program, where he
could become better prepared to one day seek public office.

Santana then went on to work in the private sector as a transportation planner for an engineering firm.
