Harry S. Overman KNIGHTSTOWN -- Harry Stanley Overman, 79, Knightstown, died Jan. 10, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Maple Valley, Ind., the son of the late Ralph Overman and Ruby (Lewis) Poole. He was a retired lieutenant colonel for the U.S. Air Force, president of Overman Plumbing, Heating and Electric Inc. of Knightstown, and a founding partner of New Castle Homes.He served as a flight instructor during World War II and was aircraft commander in Korea, Congo, Lebanon, Dominican Republic, Vietnam and during the Cuban missile crisis before retiring with 28 years of service for his country.He was a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge, Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and past president of the Knightstown Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Irene (Middleton) Overman of Knightstown; sons, Randall W. (wife, Christine) Overman of Knightstown and James C. (wife, Martha) Overman of Rocklin, Calif.; daughter, Linda L. Overman of Pawleys Island, S.C.; sister, Barbara Hoover of Anderson; eight grandchildren, Bradley (wife, Michelle) Overman of Knightstown, Daniel Overman of Knightstown, Patricia and Terrell Overman of Reno, Nev., Lorell (husband, Jason) Duteil of Fort Collins , Colo., Scott (wife, Ann) Johnson of Kings Mountain, S.C., Brian and Keith Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Michael Johnson and Rayannon Overman; niece, Sharon Rule; and two nephews, Larry Riggs and Mike Riggs. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Peggy (Howe) Overman; a granddaughter, Laura L. Johnson; and several aunts and uncles.
