One of her friends asked Harold, then 29, to drive them home.

It turned out that Harold was more interested in Ann.
Harold finally threw caution to the wind and called Ann.
After Ann returned from her Christmas vacation visiting family in Fayetteville, Harold called and asked her out again.
"My mother and grandmother took to her immediately," Harold said.
Ann laughed as she recalled another date at the Plantation Supper Club when she and Harold almost got stranded because of snow."I panicked when the owner announced we could stay at the hotel next door," she said.
A romantic at heart, Harold proposed to Ann at the church where they first met.
Ann and Harold were married October 22, 1955, at Hay Street Methodist Church in Fayetteville, the church in which Ann was raised.
Ann, 69, and Harold, 79, celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with a rededication service at their church.
"Every day is a happy memory with her," Harold said.
Harold worked for his father's company, which specialized in custom-made tailored shirts, for 15 years before going to work for O. Henry Inc., the company from which he retired in 1993 after 26 years.A Guilford College graduate, Harold has been the public address announcer for Guilford College football and basketball since 1974.He also has been active in the Jaycees and Kiwanis and works 20 hours a week as the outreach coordinator for Second Harvest Food Bank.
