Tulip Time selects Gwen Auwerda
as new executive director
Tulip Time organizers looked for a community leader when they filled the executive director position with Gwen Auwerda
has been actively involved in the Holland community for several years, as chair of the Lakeshore Athena Award Program and as a member of the Holland Chamber
Board of Directors.
She facilitated the Employer Task Force for the local Ready for School initiative and held several board positions for Leadership Holland.
Auwerda, 51, graduated from Hope College and was human resources director at Johnson Controls Inc. overseeing corporate events, corporate giving programs, relationships with local organizations and nonprofits.
worked there for more than 20 years.
Most recently, she worked in human resources at AEES Inc. in Mattawan.
will assume full-time responsibilities Monday, Gruppen said.
Tulip Time hopes to become "a little fresher, a little more relevant," Auwerda
was chosen from a pool of more than 180 applicants following an extensive search that began in the fall.
