"Justin Gustainis is a first-class writer; he's smart and he's fun, he moves quickly and he takes corners at speed. Justin Gustainis was born in Northeast Pennsylvania in 1951. He attended college at the University of Scranton, a Jesuit university that figures prominently in several of his writings. After earning both Bachelor's and Master's degrees, he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the US Army. Following military service, he held a variety of jobs, including speechwriter and professional bodyguard, before earning a PhD at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Mr Gustainis currently lives in Plattsburgh, New York. He is a Professor of Communication at Plattsburgh State University, where he earned the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2002. His academic publications include the book American Rhetoric and the Vietnam War, published in 1993, and a number of scholarly articles that hardly anybody has ever read. After earning his PhD, Justin Gustainis joined the faculty of Plattsburgh State University in New York, where he holds the rank of Full Professor. He teaches a number of courses under the rubric of 'social influence' including Rhetorical Theory, Rhetorical Criticism, Propaganda, Argumentation, and Political Communication. Dr Gustainis has worked as a freelance editor for the last eight years, during which time he has edited dissertations, theses, journal articles, and scholarly papers. He is a Full Member of the American Copy Editors Society. He is the author of the book American Rhetoric and the Vietnam War, as well as a large number of book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers in rhetoric, politics, and popular culture. His published articles include 'While the whole world watched: Rhetorical failures of anti-war protest', in Communication Quarterly (1988; 36, 3, 203-16); 'John F. Kennedy and the Green Berets: The rhetorical use of the hero myth,' in Communication Studies (1989; 40, 1, 41-53); and 'Demagoguery and Political Rhetoric: A Review of the Literature,' in Rhetoric Society Quarterly (1990; 20, 2, 155-161).
