I got a chance to talk with founding members Greg Lyons and Joshua Ostrander about Twilight, Speak-Ahh and Las Vegas in advance of ECC's headlining gig at hip hangout the Beauty Bar downtown for footwear designer Matt Bernson's first annual Band Bash, Aug. 18 at 10 p.m.

Greg: I don't think it's changed the sound that much.
Greg: We were playing this show at the Troubadour and she was playing with a band called Lemon Sun at the time and I saw them sound check and was like, "Oh Josh has to see this," so I went out-he was smoking-and I said, "You have to come in." And he came in and we just fell in love with her.
Yeah, Greg came running out and said this was what we were looking for because we'd talked about getting someone that could play guitar and do backup and do some keys and she was perfect; he was right. She's really one of the coolest girls we've ever met, so it just worked out really well. She's amazing.
WO: Do you remember where you were when you heard that "A Million Miles an Hour" was going to be included on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack?
Greg: We'd submitted like two or three songs for it and we were getting ready to go out for Josh's birthday-it was his 30th birthday and I was taking him to Vegas.
Josh: Yeah, these guys were taking me to Vegas the next morning and, like Greg was saying, we ran in and just kind of whipped something up real quick.
Greg: It was cool seeing how quickly Josh could come up with something. It was really impressive. He's really talented.
If something's good, I'll grab Greg and bounce everything off him and we'll work off of that and if that turns into something better, we'll take it to Melissa and it goes on from there. But, yeah, I'm lucky I have Greg.
Greg: It's just a good calling card, right now.
Greg: We planned to release it in the fall and then, you know, once the Twilight thing happened-because we self-released our last CD last October and we kind of just fell in love with doing's a lot of work, but we really enjoy it-we're just kind of in the middle of meeting with everybody, PR people are interested and one of the benefits of being on the Twilight soundtrack is you can talk to cool labels that you might not have been able to talk to before.
Greg: I think we're taking more risks that we probably wouldn't have years ago, but this is just that kind of band where we just keep pushing the envelope, trying out new stuff. Some of it really doesn't work, some of it does, but it makes you feel that much better when you try something you maybe wouldn't have tried five years ago and it works. Just to see the evolution of the band is my favorite part of this band, to see how we conquer new things.
WO: I know it's like choosing between your children, but do you guys have a favorite song on the new album?
Greg: Mine's "Bull in the Wild. For sure. It was such a risky tune that we took a chance on and we really worked hard on it to make it work.
WO: You'll be in Vegas at the Beauty Bar on the 18th, have you guys ever played here before?
Greg: We were talking about this the other day...the only time we played in Vegas was four years ago when we were on our way driving out to live in California and we played at the Tenacious D after-party.
Greg: Well, Josh has a severe gambling problem.
