Gregory M. Johnson, Charlottesville Business Attorney
Gregory M. Johnson has been a licensed attorney since 1984 and a certified public accountant since 1990. Combining these two interests led Greg into a legal practice based primarily on Business, Corporate, and Tax Law. At MartinWren, P.C., Greg is the primary attorney assisting the firm's institutional and business clients.
Greg's practice as a Charlottesville Business attorney includes providing legal counsel on business entity formation, the intricacies of business and corporate law, and the tax consequences in various business and corporate decisions. Greg has years of experience conducting general business transactions as well as sophisticated taxation planning, business restructuring, and bankruptcy assessments. Greg also spends a great amount of time advising companies on their tax liabilities and responsibilities, business entity options, and the benefits and consequences or available alternatives. With a firm grasp of business organizations including corporations, limited liability partnerships, limited liability companies, and general partnerships, Greg can explain the options available to your business. Not only can Greg provide seasoned and thorough advice on these matters, but he also has great experience guiding businesses in taking the necessary steps to implement strategies that will set the company up for prolonged success. Greg enjoys assisting entrepreneurs in their newfound business goals as well as working with established companies seeking to grow and protect their businesses. Further, Greg has experience representing creditors in foreclosures and ensuring their debts are repaid.
In addition to business organizations and corporate law, Greg devotes a substantial portion of his legal practice to providing legal counsel in the area of elder law. This may include acting as trustee for clients, as well as focusing on matters involving Medicaid and long term care planning, developing a thorough estate plan, and considering tax consequences throughout. Given Greg's expertise in tax matters, he is able to guide individuals, families, and businesses through establishing a comprehensive plan for the future. He is able to offer advice on available strategies that will provide and care for individuals as they age and will ensure their legal responsibilities are met, their liabilities are minimized and met, and their assets are protected.
Greg graduated from James Madison University and received his law degree from the University of Richmond, where he was the managing editor of the Law Review. He is a past president of the Central Virginia Estate Planning Council and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Certified Public Accountants. Greg is involved in the Virginia Bar Association, Virginia State Bar, Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association, and the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce.
Greg has lectured frequently on matters involving business law, estate planning, corporate issues, and taxation law on behalf of the Charlottesville Economic Development Office, Service Corps of Retired Executives, State Farm Insurance, Scott & Stringfellow, Merrill Lynch, and the Small Business Development Center as well as the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association and Thomas Jefferson Chapter of Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Greg has two sons, and the three Johnson boys enjoy spending time together especially as they cheer on the many sports teams of the University of Virginia. Greg is also an avid golfer and enjoys domestic and international travel.
