Timmins' city engineer Greg Vaillancourt said the plowing delays were an isolated and unfortunate incident, largely due to equipment breakdowns.
Several plows from the city, along with two plows from private contractors, broke down on first day of the snow fall.Plus the snow was heavy, which is hard on the equipment, he
said. Now, this might seem painfully obvious, but since snow hadn't fallen in Timmins
in about seven months, and since virtually everybody and his
brother knew days in advance about the approaching snowstorm, would it have not made sense for the city to have checked out its equipment in advance and taken care of any problems before the machines broke down?
