"Supermarkets are definitely doing a better job with HBC," says Greg Thornhill, vice president of sales and marketing for Zooth, based in Wichita Falls, Texas."There has been a drastic improvement in the past year.Market share loss has been a pretty big wake-up call for grocers.I think supermarket retailers are finally realizing that in order to be a stronger player in HBC and reverse the loss, they had to adjust their go-to-market strategy."
Thornhill says HBC appears to be more promotionally driven in supermarkets than in the past."Retailers are a little more aggressive with their pricing, tying in more products on endcaps and displays [rather] than just focusing on one product," he notes.
