We look forward to welcoming one-time Parkwoods Member, Grant Kerr, who will be helping us to celebrate the 48th Anniversary of Parkwoods United Church on November 16.A Maritimer by birth and inclination, Grant has been in ministry within the United Church for 40 years. He began as a theological student in the mid-sixties at a 'student mission field' in Baddeck, Cape Breton , where he learned a lot of 'practical stuff' from those wonderful people. While completing studies in religious education, he was on staff at Brunswick St Mission in downtown Halifax for 8 years - and married Alana during this time.In 1974, they moved to Ontario , where Grant was appointed a Toronto Conference Minister in Christian Development working as part of the Conference Staff team. While on staff, he also did consulting work for the General Council and helped in the co-ordination of several General Council meetings, including Morden , Manitoba ; Sudbury , Ontario ; and Montreal , Quebec . Grant and Alana were happy members of Parkwoods Church through this 14 yr. period. In 1988, they moved to Brampton - St Paul 's United Church , where Grant joined a team ministry in Christian Education and Outreach. (Alana passed away in June 1994) Grant has now been in Brampton for 20 years and has done some consulting work with Potentials - an ecumenical group in church vision planning. As well, he has served on several General Council Committees. He's a member of the St Leonard 's Place Board of Directors (for federal prisoners returning to community life) and sits on business committees in downtown Brampton . He continues to enjoy life - visits to Nova Scotia , reading, theatre, music and good food (not necessarily in that order!).Please join with us as we reconnect with Grant on this special day.
