Moseley School of Art Association - The Whole School Reunion 2012, 2 Nov 2014 [cached]
THE 2012 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING After being called to order by new member Trevor Phillips ('63) with the school bell, the President, Graeme Collins, opened the Annual General Meeting by welcoming everyone to the 10th. reunion organised at the school by the Association.
The most important items were the election and appointment of officers, these being the re-election of Graeme Collins as President, the re-election of Bob Ashby as Academic Officer, and the appointment of Wendy Collins as Honorary Secretary.
The meeting had previously been reminded that, following an unsolicited meeting in 2003 with a representative from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Graeme Collins had been provided with a very favourable indication that a large scale grant in the order of £1.2 Million would be positively considered if an application was made. The representative had made the approach to Graeme following the airing of a live radio broadcast from the school during the 2003 Reunion at the school, when the staff at the Heritage Lottery Fund had been impressed by the case made for the refurbishment. Graeme had passed this information to Mr. Arain, representative of the owners, the same day.
The President stated that Mr. Arain said that a grant is, in fact not available, despite Graeme having obtained confirmation directly from the Major Grants Officer for the Heritage Lottery Fund just before the meeting.
The works in question were, in fact very tasteful, and Graeme informed Mr. Arain that many of our members felt that they could not support an exhibition at the school while unrealistic constraints which amounted to censorship were being imposed.

Graeme Collins President - Moseley School of Art Association
The role of President requires a virtual full-time commitment, and is one that Graeme has managed for the last ten years. Other commitments have arisen during the last two years, however, that mean that Graeme and Wendy simply don't have the time or energy (despite having the motivation) to organise a reunion this year.
One of the projects with which our President, Graeme Collins has been involved for the last six months is the creation of a memorial to those who have either given or hazarded their lives to protect the freedom of the people of Britain. The feature will also honour those who are at present serving in the armed forces.
This is a project very close to Graeme's heart, as he feels that not only should we be grateful for the selfless sacrifice by the many who made Britain great, it should be a reminder that their sacrifices should not have been made in vain by allowing the freedom and prosperity we have hitherto enjoyed to be needlessly eroded. It has already been agreed that the memorial will be created on a public open site in Bromsgrove, just south of Birmingham and be maintained in perpetuity by Bromsgrove District Council.
Why Bromsgrove? Graeme, who has social links with the town, was informed during conversation with the Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council that no memorial to the fallen was ever provided in a public place within the town - an astonishing anomaly. Graeme, together with a small committee which includes a retired Army major and a practising barrister is preparing the way to raise support and funding for the project. The campaign committee will be named THANKSS - in allusion to honouring those who have been killed and who are still serving within our armed forces.
The Competition A great deal of public relations, advertising, fundraising and marketing will be needed over the next two years or so, and the organisation, which is currently undergoing transition to a registered charity, will need an effective logo that can be used in the many forms necessary - and that's where, it's hoped, members of the Association will come up trumps ! Based on the above, Graeme would like to invite former pupils to enter a design competition for a logo containing the letters THANKSS that will :
A pupil at the school between 1960-63, Susan had been a personal friend of the President, Graeme Collins.
Derek was located by Graeme Collins via the MSAA "Missing Persons" scheme.
As a last note: if anyone knows of the whereabouts of any other 1960 leavers, PLEASE get in touch with Graeme, via the web site, who will pass a message on to either Ron or myself.
For further details, please contact the President, Graeme Collins at the Email Link above.

This timber is infamous for its irritant properties when worked and is now covered by COSHH regulations. ( This is confirmed by Graeme Collins, President, who had an identical experience with Sapele which resulted in him being sent home on two separate occasions ) I refused to use it and would not make a coffee table because my mother would have caught her varicose veins on it. There was hell of a row and I told the teacher how much I disliked the subject. He relented, agreed to lime and I drew and made a projector cabinet to store my father's slide projector, slide boxes and be the right height for standing on a table with the projector on top for shining onto the screen.
