Grace Giglio, principal of Norman S. Weir Elementary School, said the students are taking the loss hard.
A crisis team of additional counselors was called to the school Tuesday, and she said students spent the day sharing memories of Pellettere, who served as the basketball coach as recently as last year. Pellettere gave up coaching to dedicate time volunteering at the ambulance corps, Giglio said. "He was just a good guy, an all-around good guy, always here for the kids, would go out of his way for the kids," Giglio said. The basketball team will play a memorial game in his honor Thursday night, the same day as Pellettere's funeral. The team will wear armbands with his initials on them, Giglio said.
