Gordon G. Liu, Board Member, is Professor of Applied Economics, and Executive Director for Health Economics and Management Institute (HEMI) at Peking University Guanghua School of Management. Prior to Peking University, he served as tenured associate professor at University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill (2000 - 2006); and assistant professor at the University of Southern California (1994 - 2000). Professor Liu currently serves on the China State Council Expert Panel on the Urban Insurance Experiment; the China Ministry of Health Commission for Emergent Public Health. He was elected as the 2004-2005 President of the Chinese Economists Society ( He serves as Co-Editor for the journal of Value in Health, the official journal of International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (; Editor-in-Chief for the China Journal of Pharmaceutical Economics. His primary research interests include health and development economics, health policy reform, and pharmaceutical economics. Professor Liu's current research projects are funded by the National Science Foundation, NIH, UNICEF, World Bank, and the China Medical Board, and the State government.

Research Interests:
Health economics, pharmaceutical outcomes research, inappropriate drug use in the elderly, and health policy in China.
Biographical Sketch:
Dr Liu's research has engaged in economic cost and outcomes assessment of health care interventions, including prenatal care, pharmacuetical care, and drug therapies in the US. On international side, he has played a major role in analyzing China's urban health insurance reforms, urbanization, and changes in rural health care. Currently he is leading on two research projects: a NIH-funded project to study inappropriate prescription drug use and health outcomes in the elderly; and an industry-funded project to investigate the economics costs of alternative medications in treating schizophrenia patients. He is also initiating a research to measure the role of health human capital in economic development. He serves as co-editor of Value in Health, the official journal of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).
