MANILA, Nov. 2 (Sunstar) -- It's not true that Glydel Mercado
is jealous of Priscilla Almeda. It's just that she
doesn't want to see the photos posted on the Internet showing beau Tonton Gutierrez and the 'Sutla' siren in compromising poses.
"Ibinalita lang sa akin na nasa Internet nga raw 'yung photos nina Ton at Abby.Sa akin naman, ayoko nang tingnan pa 'yun, dahil para ano pa, di ba?Ang nakapagtataka lang, requirement daw talaga ni Ton na walang still photographer sa set, pero nakalusot pa rin.Siguro nga, kinunan 'yung movie sa preview room o kung saan man," she
We said, "Glydel
is not jealous.She
does not want to see the photos so she
won't get jealous," to which she
retorted, "Sobra..." "Sa akin din naman, ayaw kong pinanonood ni Ton ang mga movies ko. 'Yung 'Sidhi' nga pinanood niya nu'ng tapos na ang awards season, nag-rent na lang siya ng tape," Glydel
With the wedding spree in showbiz (Cesar Montano-Sunshine Cruz, Aga Muhlach - Charlene Gonzales), isn't a wedding for Glydel Mercado
and Tonton Gutierrez not far behind?
"Maybe in two years. Not now," she
When we chanced upon Tonton Gutierrez at ABS-CBN
for the press conference of "Pangako Sa
'Yo" (premieres Nov. 13, 7 p.m. taking over "Labs Ko Si Babe," starring Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa backed up by a powerful cast of both newcomers and veterans, directed by Rory Quintos), he
confirmed that the plan for a wedding is indeed two years from now.
"May mga obligasyon pa si Glydel, hindi pa bayad 'yung bahay," Tonton said.He
added that Glydel
may move to his
place in New Manila when they're already married.
We pointed out that he
also has sizzling scenes in the teleserye (new term coined by Rory Quintos and Olive Lamasan) based on the trailer, but Tonton said that's nothing compared to the photos posted on the Internet.
"'Yung sa 'Pangako,' wala 'yun, hindi 'yun dapat ikapagselos ni Glydel. 'Yung sa Internet, talagang grabe 'yun," he
But in Cody Moreno's debut album under Icon Records released thru Star Records, Glydel
hand at recording in her
duet with the balikbayan model for the song "Bulong Ng Puso."
Composed by Lito Camo, the OPM pop ballad is about a man and a woman who try to listen to their hearts' desire.
With Cody getting known now more as a singer/recording artist rather than model-actor, an album for Glydel
is not far behind.
"Acting is my priority, pero enjoy din ako sa pagkanta.Kung merong magkamaling mag-produce ng album, why not, di ba?"the 2000 grandslam Best Supporting Actress said. Glydel is busy with her "Munting Anghel" miniseries on GMA (Monday primetime) together with Matthew Mendoza, Antoinette Taus, Daisy Reyes, Gary Estrada, Wendell Ramos and GMA's newest find, Isabella, as the little angel. Her
"Ping Lacson" movie with Rudy Fernandez and Lorna Tolentino is also due for showing. (SNS)
Crystal Films re-issues Glydel's 'Ambisyosa'
MANILA, July 19 (Sunstar) -- V-Rich producer Baby Alano called from the MTRCB
chairman's office saying that her
most ambitious project, "Ambisyosa," starring Glydel Mercado
, is being shown again.
The movie is being reissued by Crystal Films, Inc.
but whether Crystal is Alano's new outfit replacing V-Rich or it is just a movie releasing company, that we forgot to clarify.
"Five days lang naipalabas ang 'Ambisyosa,' tapos nu'n pinull-out ko na.Hindi pa 'yun naipapalabas sa probinsiya," Baby said. All we can remember about the film when it was shown three or four years ago was that Glydel was involved in a controversial sexual harassment case against fellow actor Chuck Perez. Her
complaint was a big issue in the industry then. But when KAPP (Kapisanan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino) came to the fore, it was Glydel
, instead of Chuck, who was meted punishment. She
was suspended for a year for lodging a complaint against a fellow actor when (they said) it was all part of the profession. (Would you believe?)
"Ambisyosa" was pulled out because of the sanction, though it was done even before the suspension.
It was a hard climb for Glydel
, specially that the person who allegedly coerced her
into lodging the complaint against Chuck left her
in the middle of the battle and became a turncoat -- all in the name of yellow broadcast and print journalism.
But genuine talent, like a diamond thrown even into the murkiest water, will always shine, no matter what.Glydel
was given a new break by Crown Seven Ventures-Solar Films
via "Sidhi."That movie gave her
a grandslam-winning performance as the other woman of Albert Martinez who befriends the original mute-wife played by Nora Aunor.
It is also in "Ambisyosa" that the Glydel Mercado-Tonton Gutierrez love affair started.Glydel plays slum-dwelling but ambitious Mila, a clerk-typist in a rundown groundfloor office in Ortigas, while Tonton plays Alvin, her
quest for a more convenient and higher-paying job, she
actuates Mr. Flores (ER Ejercito or George Estregan Jr.), and in exchange of sexual favor, she
gets a better job, until she
meets a young executive (Emilio Garcia), goes several floors higher with Bryan (Roy Rodrigo), a businessman, and ending up in the arms of the owner of the building (Ronaldo Valdez).
Until now, Glydel Mercado
and Tonton Gutierrez are still holding each other's hands, caressing each other's arms.
"Ambisyosa" is rated R as it contains partial nudity and a number of sex scenes, some of which are prolonged. (SNS) Glydel
tackles another challenging role in 'Azucena'
MANILA, May 11 (Sunstar) -- Grand slam Best Supporting Actress Glydel Mercado tackles another challenging role in her
latest film, "Azucena," under Reyna Films
plays a battered wife-turned-murderer.
Since getting the nod of critics, moviegoers and judges alike in her
portrayal of a conscientious second wife to Albert Martinez and loyal friend to her
husband's original mute wife Nora Aunor in "Sidhi," things have been coming up rosy for this lucky sexy star. She's
not only lucky in her
career but also in her
"Minsan dumating din sa buhay ko 'yung talagang galit na galit ako sa mundo.I became totally depressed then and was even hopitalized," she
recounts, referring to an incident in her
career where she
complained against Chuck Perez, her
co-star in a movie then, for sexual harassment.
The totally unexpected happened - she
, the complainant, ended as the accused and was suspended from doing movies for a year by the KAPP. Glydel harbored resentment in her heart for a while, including with then "Showbiz Lingo" and "Cristy Per Minute" host and Mariposa Publications publisher Cristy Fermin whom she thought betrayed her.
But miracles do happen even in showbiz.Glydel
and Chuck's paths crossed when they both found themselves attending the religious LSS (Life in the Spirit Seminar) in Tagaytay.Chuck humbly asked for forgiveness and Glydel
did not withhold pardon.
This time, having been recognized by all award-giving bodies for her
effervescent acting skills, plus her
membership in the Oasis of Love, Glydel
has decided to put limit to her
sexy scenes onscreen.
"Okay lang 'yung may bed scene. But I don't think I will allow myself to be seen frontally bare onscreen.I wish more serious movies will come my way, hindi lang 'yung pagpapakita ng flesh," she
There is no marriage plan for Glydel and Tonton Gutierrez this year. Her
aunt Luz, who accompanies her
in most cases, reveals, "Flor (Glydel's real name is Flordeliza Sanchez) would like to build a house first for her
mom before she
finally settles down.Her
main focus for the year 2000 is on her
says, "Nauna 'yung hirap sa parte ko.There were just so many trials that I encountered.Kaya masarap ang feeling if slowly you get to realize your dreams. What I wanted ever since is get recognized as an actress. In 'Azucena,' sobrang nakakapagod 'yung love scene namin ni Ricky (Davao). It had to be shot in different angles so we had to try different positions. It was a labor of love on the part of Ricky.
, as an afterthought, realized that the sacrifices made by all members of the cast is all worth it.Seeing the trailer was enough reward for all of them. (SNS)
