"I have lived in North Georgia and have seen the poverty," said Tiny Stitches co-founder Gloria Bantekas."Mothers taking babies home with nothing." The group has grown from a small handful of volunteers to more than 150 people giving of their time. Some sew, some knit and crochet. But even craft-challenged volunteers are put to work in this non-profit organization."Some people cut and make fabric kits, others sort snaps that come in thousand-piece bags," said Bantekas."You don't have to know how to sew to be involved."The organization anonymously delivers gift bags to the mothers of needy newborns throughout the state.Bags contain sleepers, receiving blankets, bibs and other necessities, and are distributed through area hospitals.Locally, Gwinnett Medical Center and Emory Eastside receive newborn gift bags from the organization for new moms who need the help."The mothers that get the bags only know that people care," said Bantekas.
