Glenn Sapir Is NWTF's 2008 Communicator of the Year
Glenn Sapir, NSSF's director of editorial services, was honored with the National Wild Turkey Federation's 2008 Communicator of the Year Award during a Professional Outdoor Media Association conference luncheon last Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D. The annual award recognizes a communicator who answers the call to promote wild turkey conservation and the preservation of North America's hunting heritage. Sapir is an avid sportsman who has demonstrated for many years his passion and support of outdoor traditions through a distinguished career as a magazine editor and contributor to outdoor publications, as a book author and, for the last five years, as director of NSSF's editorial services.
Through his words and stories, Glenn has inspired countless people to love the outdoors as much as he does. Upon accepting the award, Sapir said, "This is a tremendous honor and I'm really appreciative of the editors, industry, members and mentors that enabled me to write about perhaps America's greatest wildlife conservation story. Sapir also serves on the New York State Outdoor Writers Association's (NYSOWA) Board of Directors.

Glenn Sapir Retires from the NSSF
Posted by NYSOWA on May 9, 2014
Glenn Sapir is a past president, the current secretary and a longtime member of the NYSOWA. We wish him the best in his retirement from the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The following news release ran in SHOT Business:
PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. - Glenn Sapir, veteran outdoor communicator, has announced his retirement from his position of Director, Editorial Services, for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), effective Friday, April 25. Since 2003, Sapir had been coordinator of and/or contributor to several of the organization's newsletters, edited The Range Report enewsletter for shooting facilities, coordinated the creation of NSSF's award-winning Annual Review and contributed more than 50 articles per year to magazines and electronic publications that welcomed NSSF's message.
Sapir's storied career began in 1970 as Assistant Editor of Outdoor Life magazine. He held subsequent positions with Sports Afield and, for 18 years, with Field & Stream, making him the first person to serve on the editorial staffs of what was then called "the Big Three. In 1989 Sapir established Ashmark Communications, Inc. as a full-service editorial company, and for the 13 years before joining NSSF, he headed that business while also becoming licensed as a securities broker.
Other editorships included New York Sportsman and Family Entertainment Center and the first electronic outdoor magazine, Outdoor Bytes, which was nominated for a national award by the Smithsonian Institution. His byline has appeared more than a thousand times in dozens of publications.
Sapir has been active in outdoor writer organizations, serving as president of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, the New York State Outdoor Writers Association and the New York Metropolitan Outdoor Press Association. He has been recognized several times by those organizations for his writing and photography. OWAA bestowed upon him two of its most prestigious awards, the J. Hammond Brown Memorial Award for extraordinary service and the Excellence in Craft Award for lifetime achievement. In recognition of his accomplishments Sapir was inducted into the New York State Outdoorsmen's Hall of Fame in 2010.
"Working at NSSF has been an honor and a pleasure, but I am not going out to pasture now," Sapir said. "I'm merely beginning the next chapter of my life.
Sapir will begin this new chapter of his outdoor communications career through Ashmark Communications, Inc., 845-528-0968, email
