Central MP and Minister of the People and Social Development
Minister of the People and Social Development
fired by pm: Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh, Member of Parliament for Caroni Central.
Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh was elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Caroni Central, following the general election of Monday, May 24, 2010. He was appointed Minister of the People and Social Development on May 28. Ramadharsingh had previously served as an opposition senator. Ramadharsingh, a veterinarian, was president of the Student's Guild (1999-2000) at The University of the West Indies (St Augustine campus). Her action came 11 days after the Express exclusively reported police were investigating a report of disorderly behaviour by Ramadharsingh, on board a domestic flight from Tobago to Trinidad on March 16. Ramadharsingh subsequently apologised for his behaviour, saying he was suffering from "severe fatigue" but denied touching a flight attendant's breast or threatening to have her fired. Ramadharsingh however is being nominated by the constituency's party groups to contest the 2015 general election. "I indicated to them my deepest appreciation and indicated that I would give the answer within a week or two. I then had been consulting with constituents, party supporters, family, church and other citizens," he said. On Mother's Day, at a function at his constituency office, Ramadharsingh offered himself to continue serving Caroni Central. He said, "When they spoke to me and expressed their love and support, I officially agreed to file a nomination form."
Also addressing the meeting was Caroni Central MP and Minister of the People and Social Development, Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh, who observed the Ministry had removed approximately 7,000 persons who did not belong in the food card programme.
"We removed seven thousand people who did not belong in a food card programme, driving SUVs, having the latest fashion, pounding hard music and swiping food cards," Ramadharsingh said. "We were able to get 12,000 more people who were truly needy. That takes us to 40,000 clients in the food card programme over the past few months while under the PNM people would go hungry, they have no food, families were crying, children were crying," he said.
Police are expected to visit the Ministry of the People and Social Development's head office in Port of Spain later this week as the probe into alleged sex acts against fired Government minister Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh gets under way.
The Express learned that Patricia Singh-the Central Trinidad woman who claimed that she was made to perform sex acts on Ramadharsingh when she went to him for assistance to fast-track a Housing Development Corporation (HDC) application-is expected to accompany police to the specific office where the incidents are alleged to have occurred. According to the police report made by Singh last week, the two sex acts allegedly occurred at the ministry's Independence Square and Abercromby Street, Port of Spain, office in 2011 and eight weeks ago. During a five-minute, 15-second recorded conversation obtained by the Express between Singh and Ramadharsingh, the mother of three expressed disgust over the sex acts she said she was made to perform on him. During the telephone conversation, Ramadharsingh did not admit to the alleged sex acts performed on him. The Express learned that a copy of the sworn statutory declaration in which Singh speaks of her disapproval over performing the sex acts on Ramadharsingh at the ministry's office has also been handed over to police. On Sunday, Ramadharsingh "categorically and unequivocally" denied all of Singh's allegations. He was responding to the Sunday Express (April 6) exclusive story which stated that police had started an investigation into Singh's report alleging she was made to perform the sex acts on him. The fired minister has said the report was misleading and without merit and has caused personal hurt, pain and suffering to his family and he will be referring the issue to his attorneys. Ramadharsingh had not previously responded to e-mails, text messages or telephone calls on the allegations when the Sunday Express had tried to contact him from as early as March 25 before publication of its lead story last Sunday. Housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal could not be reached for comment on statements made by Ramadharsingh during the recorded conversation.
Chanardaye Ramadharsingh, the mother of Minister of the People, Glenn Ramadharsingh, was appointed vice-chairman of the Siparia Regional Corporation yesterday.
Ramadharsingh, a second-term councillor for the electoral district Otaheite/Rousillac, is the first woman to hold the position, according to Local Government Minister Marlene Coudray.
