It turns out that San Francisco's own Catholic Charities chief administrative officer, Glenn Motola, is himself an openly gay adoptive parent.
Back in December, before the flare-up over same-sex adoptions, Motola told the gay Advocate magazine that he and his partner had adopted their daughter four years ago, though they went through a different agency to avoid a conflict of interest.
Motola didn't return calls seeking comment, but he did tell the Advocate, "I have never felt disrespected in this agency for who I am and how I live my life."
The real irony, as has been widely noted, is that newly elevated Cardinal William Levada -- who is in charge of church doctrine at the Vatican -- allowed Catholic Charities to get involved in same-sex adoptions during his tenure as San Francisco archbishop.

Oak Hill School - Archive

Marin City's Oak Hill School, a school for children with autism and other learning challenges, recently announced the appointment of Dr. Glenn Motola as executive director. He replaces Karen Kaplan, who led the school for the past five years.
Motola, who has a doctorate in clinical psychology, joins Oak Hill from Catholic Charities CYO, San Francisco, where he most recently was director of programs and services, managing a staff of 800, serving more than 40,000 clients annually.
"We're confident Glenn has the skills and experience to take Oak Hill to the next level, including what we can offer our students and the role we can play in the development and testing of innovative curriculum," said Jennifer Fearon, co-chair of Oak Hill's board of directors and a founder of the school.
...
Oak Hill is that opportunity," said Motola.
