Glenn Bishop
Glenn Bishop, partner and senior principal at LBYD, has been inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame as part of the 2014 honoree class. Bishop has dedicated more than 40 years of his professional life to being an engineer. "You see a lot of people who do the job and go home, but Glenn has never been that way," said Bob Barnett, structural engineer with Barnett Jones Wilson. Bishop received his degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama. He is a founding member of LBYD, having helped form the company in the late 1970s. Some of his major professional accomplishments include the north end-zone expansion at the University of Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium, a project that included a 195,000-square foot addition of more than 8,300 new upper deck seats, a club lounge, 38 sky boxes, a new home team locker room, ticketing and concession areas, two framed floors for administrative purposes and the design of a new plaza at the entrance of the stadium, and the facility's south end-zone expansion, which consisted of a 300,000-square foot addition to the upper deck. "Glenn hired me more than 30 years ago and I have worked here at LBYD with him since," said Dale York, chairman and senior principal of LBYD. Bishop served as president of the American Council of Engineering Companies-Alabama (ACEC) for two terms and while on the ACEC's Planning Cabinet he helped completely revise, update and rewrite the organization's long-range plan and numerous guidelines and commentaries. While he has served as chairman of the board of directors at LBYD, the company has been inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame and received numerous other recognitions, including the American Subcontractors Association of Alabama's Engineering Firm of the Year Award twice and the Alabama Association General Contractors of America's Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award. Bishop was officially inducted at the 26th Annual Induction Ceremony of the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame on February 15, 2014. "There are a lot of things that go into getting you here to receive an honor like this," Bishop said.
