And at IBM, any former detractors to Rometty, 53, are genuinely supportive of her as the best candidate for Big Blue's top job.
Longtime IBMer and superstar Virginia Rometty, 53, was named CEO. Rometty has had senior exec roles across most functional areas at IBM, including Sales, Marketing, Strategy, and Global Services. She is known as the lady with Palmisano's iron fist but with the addition of a velvet glove.

Following Microsoft's Nadella's quote on Monday, IBM's Chief Executive, Ginni Rometty said on Tuesday that advances in AI will lead to job losses, but that new forms of employment will take their place.
In order for AI, such as IBM's Watson to succeed, companies need to focus on building the trust of its prospective users, Ms Rometty said during her speech at the World Economic Forum panel in Davos, Switzerland. "It's not man or machine," Rometty said. "It's a symbiotic relationship. Ms. Rometty did admit that some jobs will eventually become obsolete due to the implementing of AI, but referred to how technological breakthroughs are not new to us, and that over the years, these advances have led to new employment opportunities. "There's so much fear about jobs, but most of us will be working with these systems", Rometty said.

I found extremely interesting the interview to Ginni Rometty, the Chairwoman, President and CEO of IBM.
She said that we are in a unique period since there a 3 technologic revolutions happening simultaneously which make this point in time different from ever before But the point raised by Ms. Rometty is that AI does not replace humans, it does something that humans cannot physically do since no human would be able to deal with such massive amount of information and AI can reach results from which anyone can benefit.

Ginni Rometty, chairman, president and CEO of IBM, speaks during a keynote address at the 2016 CES trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 6, 2016.
REUTERS/Steve Marcus "We have thousands of open positions at any given moment, and we intend to hire about 25,000 professionals in the next four years in the United States," Rometty wrote in a USA Today piece published on Tuesday afternoon. When asked why IBM planned to increase its U.S. workforce after those job cuts, company spokesman Ian Colley said in an email that Rometty had laid out the reasons in her USA Today piece. Rometty is one of more than a dozen U.S. executives serving on an advisory council that Trump has formed to consult him on job creation.
