According to Gina McLellan, Singapore's country manager for Hudson, she says there has been a general slowdown in the hiring across all levels, including top levels where priority is given to revenue generating headcount or critical replacement hires. Companies are hiring more cautiously and are putting in place more stringent hiring processes to make sure that every headcount is accounted for, she adds.

However, the demand for top talent has not been drastically affected as the market is still short of candidates for critical or strategic hires. Niche roles in the manufacturing and healthcare sectors, for instance can still command a premium as companies are willing to pay for talent who have a specific set of skills, McLellan says.
Besides that, many organisations are also looking to attract top talent from their competitors during this crucial period of time if they are able to provide a more compelling opportunity. She adds that "salary increases will be not as great as what we have seen in 2007 and early 2008, but companies will still pay a premium to encourage candidates to move jobs."
While the number of top applicants looking for new positions in recent times are mostly non-local, McLellan says Hudson has not witnessed an increase in the number of Singaporean candidates as firms in Singapore have yet to make major redundancies.
