Director & Trustee, Wales Gerwyn Owen Director & Trustee, Wales Gerwyn Owen is the Academy Manager at Disability Sport Wales. Once a talented, sporting, individual is recognised in the community by Disability Sport Development Officers, Gerwyn assesses the individual's ability by inviting them along to a training session. The Academy structure Gerwyn manages provides professional support to athletes in the forms of links with consultants such as Nutritionists, Sports Scientists, Sports Psychologists and Physiotherapists. His previous jobs have also focused on disability sport. Gerwyn was the Disability Sport Wales Development Officer at Gwynedd Council from 2002-2003 and then between April 2003 and June 2007 Gerwyn was the Swimming Development Officer at Federation of Disability Sport Wales.

UKSAPLD Director and FDSW Academy Manager Gerwyn Owen said: 'Jack has been training hard over the last few years to establish himself as a performance swimmer.
His selection to this event, at his age, shows he has great potential to be a future World Champion. His goal is to be competing at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. At the moment Learning Disabled Athletes are banned from competing, but UKSAPLD are working with all parties to see them reinstated'. He had turned 13 by the time he flew out to Poland and despite some nervous moments he swam extremely well; improving all his entry times and placing overall 4th in his 200metre backstroke and 6th in all of his other 3 events(400m individual medley, 400m freestyle and 50metre backstroke). It was an amazing five days and they all rose to the final day challenge set by the Academy Manager Gerwyn Owen.
