Gerhard Wolfgang Brill, CEC, AAC, executive chef and food and beverage director at Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, Ala., has been chosen as Chef of the Year by the ACF Heart of the Gulf Coast Chefs and Cooks Association.Currently president of his chapter, Brill has been an ACF member for 28 years and helped form the original Atlanta chapter.Born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1939, Brill became an apprentice in a great hotel kitchen at age 12.He then began a cooking odyssey that took him to Zurich, Rome, Barcelona, Athens, and Teheran.He also prepared meals at German embassies in Moscow, Peking, and Bangkok.Brill came to the United States in 1965, and after stints in Atlanta, Hilton Head, S.C., and New Orleans, he developed a flair for southern cuisine.Brill has been at the South Alabama resort since 1987 where his Creole creations earned his resort prestigious awards and honors.
