Gereon Krahforst was born into an artistic household in Bonn, Germany, 1973.
After a comprehensive early education in music, upon graduating from high school in 1990 he studied composition, musicology, church music, piano, and organ in Cologne and Frankfurt for ten years.
Mr. Krahforst held a series of distinguished positions as organist and direcor of music, beginning at age 26 in Bonn (Kreuzbergkirche), Moenchengladbach (Minster Basilica), Minden (Cathedral) and Paderborn (Cathedral), and in 2004 he began an eight-year tenure of teaching organ repertoire and improvisation at the Hannover University for Music and Dance.At that juncture he emigrated to the Mediterranean resort town of Marbella in southern Spain (Andalusia) and served as director of music at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on the nationally significant „Órgano del Sol".Between 2012 and 2014 he held the highly selective O-1B visa for artists demonstrating exceptional abilities while serving as the cathedral organist and associate director of music at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, Missouri, (USA).In 2014 he returned to his homeland and to the position of director of music at St. Lutwinus's Church in Mettlach, (Saarland) where he was responsible for six choirs.
In April 2015, he was summoned to assume his present position of abbey organist and artistic director of the international organ concert series at the famous twelfth-century abbey of Maria Laach, one of Europe's most significant monuments of pure Romanesque architecture.
Furthermore, he is artistic director of the organ concert series at the Fasen organ in St. Sebastian, Boppard/Rhine, and at the precious historic Balthasar Koenig organ (1714) in the cloister church St. Leodegar in Niederehe (Eifel).As a composer, Krahforst has written a number of works for piano, organ, voice, choir, string quartet or orchestra.His compositions are found in the catalogues of American, German, and Dutch publishers.
He recently completed his Second Organ Symphony (for 1-4 organs) on commission from the Metropolitan Canonic Chapter of the Archdiocesis of Freiburg at the Freiburg Cathedral.
Mr. Krahforst has received wide ranging and profound accolades for many aspects of his artistry, especially for his improvisations in distinctive styles, his sensitive and refined registrations, and this thoughtfully varied programming, from colleagues such as Jean Guillou, Olivier Latry, Thierry Escaich, John Scott, and Stephen Tharp.

On October 22, we have the opportunity to welcome one of our newest community members, organist Gereon Krahforst.Gereon is an accomplished organist, composer, improviser, and church musician whose teachers include such notables as Daniel Roth, Marie-Claire Alain, Peter Planyavsky, Guy Bovet and Franz Lehrndorfe.
Gereon recently joined the musical staff at Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.

GEREON KRAHFORST was born in 1973 in Bonn, Germany.He studied composition, church music, piano, and music theory at the university for music in Cologne, musicology at the University of Cologne and received his diploma and masters degree in organ in Frankfurt.He has studied privately with Markus Karas John Birley (before the university studies), and then with Clemens Ganz, and Daniel Roth.
At the age of 29, he was appointed cathedral organist at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Paderborn and lecturer (Gregorian Chant) at the theological seminary of Paderborn.In 2004 he was appointed lecturer and instructor of organ at the university for music in Hannover, where, since 2006, he has lead the study course in Catholic church music.Mr. Krahforst also serves as representative for this university in the German association of Catholic church music training schools.
During 2004 and 2005, Mr. Krahforst supervised all technical and tonal aspects of the renovation and enlargement of Paderborn's cathedral organs.
He is the artistic director of the International Organ Concert Series of Paderborn cathedral and stays in contact with musicians from five continents.Krahforst is well known for his large repertory (including the complete organ works of Buxtehude and Bach), from ancient to contemporary music.
Mr. Krahforst is also a master of organ improvisation in different styles.
He has won numerous prizes in prestigious piano, organ, improvisation, and composition competitions.
Making his North American concert debut at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas, under the auspices of the Houston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists in November, 2007, Mr. Krahforst has performed, lectured, and taught at numerous venues, festivals, and academies in Europe, Latin America, and South Korea.
