George Tyndall
Our featured member this month is George Tyndall, our club president. You already know, from the articles he's published in our newsletter, that he's a knowledgeable pigeon breeder and a great supporter of the pigeon fancy and of pigeon breeders.
George has had pigeons continuously since he was 14 years old, except for a stint in the military. He is well known and respected among breeders in the northeast, and it's great fun to sit with George and a couple of his old friends and listen to them reminisce about the New York pigeon wars and their youthful exploits in the fancy.
George first showed with the Old German Owl Club at the Myrtle Beach National. He had never heard of our club, and was a bit leery of us at first, but after asking us several very thoughtful and probing questions, he became a supporter.George brought two beautiful yellow birds to that show, and one of them was judged 2nd best old hen.His yellows are still some of the best ones in the U.S.The bird featured with George in the photograph is his blue bar that won best of breed shield marked at the Rhinebeck show last fall.
In addition to the Old German Owls, George also raises Damascenes and English Magpies. His Damascenes won at the National Young Bird Show in 1999, and at the last two NPA Nationals.
George is a tireless and enthusiastic promoter of the Old German Owl.He has brought many new members into our club, and he is always willing to help someone get started with a few good birds from his loft.He is a well-respected member of the NPA, and is savvy about pigeon politics. While this is an area that most of us would like to avoid, his skill has been invaluable in guiding us through the on-going troubles with the Rare Breeds Pigeon Club.
George is presently running for NPA District 2 representative, and we wish him the best of luck.
Updated from the original article above:
George has won the National the last four times with the Damascenes and won 2002 national with a Blue Bar OGO and was reserve champion in 2003 with a Red shield.
