met along the way.After Mass one day, an elderly woman asked him if he
wanted to be a priest."That struck home," said Friar Brad
.Another instance occurred when he
went on a sailing excursion with his
best friend.He and his friend came onto shore to eat lunch, where he met a man who said, "I think you have a vocation to be a priest."
"I was shocked," remembered Friar Brad
."I kept searching until God put me where I wanted to go."Friar Brad
said when he
was 18 years old, he
wanted to apply to the Franciscans Order.After spending a year in discernment, he
spent six months in a period of acceptance.
When Friar Brad
entered the novitiate phase of his
journey and lived with other friars in his
learned about the fundamental principles and obligations of the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.He
also learned about the prayer traditions and the underlying spirituality of the community.
Today, Friar Brad lives with 16 other Franciscan friars.
