Meeker Sr., 75, of Indian Lane, Durham, beloved husband of Isabell (Smith) Meeker, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Middlesex Hospital.He was born in Norwalk, son of the late Ralph and Retha (Gosnell) Meeker.He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.He was a member of VFW Post 19, the New England Safety Council, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a safety supervisor at Smith's Transfer.Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, George E. Meeker Jr. of Middletown, Glenn D. Meeker of Durham, Bruce R. Meeker of Plainfield, N.H. and Dean Meeker of Durham; two daughters, Janet Mineau of Westfield and Joyce Woliver of Wallingford; a brother, Glenn D. Meeker of Easton; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by a son, Marc J. Meeker; and a sister, Myrtle Miller.Graveside services were held Friday in Durham Center Cemetery, Durham.Those who wish may make contributions to the Connecticut Humane Society, 710 Russell Road, Newington, 06111.
