But George Litsch, Schuylkill Products, Inc. plant manager and vice president of manufacturing, says it's the people that make the Schuylkill Products production department tick.The bid specs called for twenty 96-inch high precast, prestressed concrete girders for the exit bridge. ìItís the length that set the record,î says Plant Manager George Litsch who attests that they were the longest girders ever produced for PennDOT.Says Litsch, ìWe had manufactured similarly sized girders for the Philadelphia Bridge Authority, but these were just a little bit longer.î The extra length was necessary in order to accommodate both the north- and south-bound lanes. ìAlso, we had limited space to build the piers and abutments, so an extra long girder helped accomplish that,î he adds.
