GEORGE H. KUMLER
George Kumler is a retired Manager of Technology for Himont North American Operations at Himont USA Inc. in Clear Lake City, Texas. George began his career in June of 1951 in the Atomic Energy Division of the American Cyanamid Co. in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The Atomic Energy Division, through contract with the Atomic Energy Commission, recovered Uranium 235 from spent reactor fuel assemblies. He stayed with American Cyanamid Co. until September of 1953. In that same month, George joined the U.S. Navy where he became the Electronics Officer and then the Operations Officer on a Radar Picket Destroyer (USS O'Hare), in Norfolk, VA. In March of 1957, George joined Hercules Inc. at their Parlin, New Jersey plant which manufactured nitrocellulose and polypropylene. At this plant George held positions of Process Engineer, Area Supervisor, and Operating Superintendent. In March of 1970, George moved to Wilmington, Delaware where he was pilot plant manager starting up a new polypropylene pilot plant at Hercules Research Center. In August 1971 George accepted a transfer to the Hercules polypropylene plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he served as Technical Superintendent and eventually Manager of Technology for North American Operations. During this time Hercules and Montedison merged their polypropylene operations to form a new company, Himont Inc. In January 1988 George transferred to Clear Lake City, Texas to form a process engineering group at a new Himont Engineering Office. The group provided process engineering for new polypropylene manufacturing facilities and arranged for startup assistance for licensees of Himont technology worldwide. George managed this group and served as Manager of Technology for Himont North American Operations until he retired in 1991. In June of 1951, George received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. In June of 1965 he received a Master of Business Administration degree from Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. George currently lives with his wife Lou in Sulphur, Louisiana where they both volunteer for Care/Help of Sulphur. At Care/Help he administers the computer network, administers a training program on computer applications, prepares donated computers for sale, and programs databases.

George Kumler has been named Care/Help of Sulphur's Volunteer of the Month for December.Kumler has graciously volunteered at Care/Help for 12 years as a Computer Technician and Computer Class Instructor in the Education Center.His answers to the Care/Help office's many computer problems make life run smoothly for the staff.Kumler is involved in restoring computers both for office use and for classroom use, as well as for sale in The WisePenny Thrift Store.Each morning, he makes his rounds through the Computer Education Building and the Care/Help offices, making sure all systems are go. Kumler said what he likes best about being a Care/Help volunteer is the association with a bunch of great people.The staff thinks just as fondly of"Mr. George." Kumler has been married to wife Lou for 46 years, and they attend Westminster Presbyterian Church.They are blessed with three children, Paul, Alan and Scott, as well as seven grandchildren.Kumler's hobbies include computers, reading, travel and yard work.He previously was the Manager of Technology for Himont North America.The Care/Help staff thanks Kumler for his many, many hours of computer expertise and instructor skills.Right-O!!!
