"If the credit markets dry up ...
"If the credit markets dry up and we are not able to arrange loans for our customers, our business will slow drastically down," said George Fritze.Fritze is the general manager of Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City and told us they're already seeing the first signs of a credit crunch.
"In the last few months we've had lenders that have left the United States, that have left our state."Fritze
described those lenders as the ones who catered most to customers with less-than stellar credit.
Now the banks are making it tougher to get a car loan, and requiring larger down payments.Fritze
doesn't necessarily see this as a bad thing."They've gone too far in allowing people with no money down to extend much longer terms than they should have been financing."Fritze
also suggested that raising federal insurance (in what consumers know as the FDIC) on bank deposits to 250-thousand dollars doesn't go far enough to ease worries. He
believes the government should have unlimited guarantees on money in banks to avoid even the possibility of widespread panic.
