Mr George Yaw Boakye, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo South, said the mere provision of school text books, free uniforms, and removal of schools under trees were nothing for the government to be proud of adding that there should have been programmes and projects assigned as social interventions.

Mr Boakye noted that the standard of education at the basic level was falling especially at the public schools, saying the cost of education these days was very expensive whilst newly trained teachers had not been paid for the past one year, with no motivation for teachers especially teachers in rural areas.
He expressed concern about the state of the nations' polytechnics, saying the manifesto of the NDC pledged to pay special attention to polytechnic education.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asunafo South, Mr. George Yaw Boakye, said the Assembly in collaboration with the Sinapi Aba Trust, an NGO, would begin the training of 150 youth in various vocations under the Assembly's youth apprenticeship programme soon.
He said 500 youth were expected to be trained and would be given a start-up capital after their training to enable them to begin their businesses.

Meanwhile, the DCE-elect, Mr. George Yaw Boakye, regretted that the NDC Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Mr. Eric Poku, absented himself from that special meeting of the assembly to confirm the President's nomination, despite the assembly's invitation extended to him.

Mr. Boakye commented that it is the duty of both members of the government and the opposition to support the development of the district, since both parties work towards a common goal.
He therefore appealed to the MP to make his suggestions available and present himself to the assembly whenever needed.
