Professor George L. Benwell's
academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Surveying and a Master and PhD in Philosophy.
As a licensed surveyor he
worked for the Port of Melbourne Authority and Alan J. Brown.
He has also been a senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne and the University of Otago.
George is currently the Head of the Department of Information Science, and Dean of Research for the School of Business at the University of Otago.
areas of research and teaching are focused on spatial information processing and analysis and land and health related information systems.
has been involved with research in Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Chile, Canada, Fiji, England, America, Malaysia and Tonga and has published over 200 research papers and articles as well as chapters in books, conference papers, and reports.
George is also on the editorial board of a number of international journals..
