George Altirs, owner and creator of Capelli New York, decided to build upon the apparel and accessories line for women by launching Capelli Sport as a new brand. His initial intention was simply to provide his six sons and their soccer teams with the necessary uniforms, balls and other supplies. Sure enough though, his passion for soccer along with the help of his wife and his sons' input straight from the field quickly led Capelli Sport to expand.

George Altirs, owner of USL club Wilmington Hammerheads, founder of New Jersey youth club Cedar Stars and CEO of Capelli Sport, has purchased a 5.1 percent stake in German second division club MSV Duisburg.

The deal includes an option for a further 5 percent ownership and will make Capelli Sport the official outfitter of MSV Duisburg when its current contract with Uhlsport expires.
"We were looking into several options to partner up with a German professional team," said Altirs.
Altirs, founder of apparel, footwear and fashion firm Capelli New York, in 2011 launched the Cedar Stars, which became a U.S. Soccer Development Academy club in 2014. He opened the Capelli Sports Center indoor soccer facility in Carlstadt, N.J., in 2011. He become majority owner of the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2013. He's has also partnered with NJSA, the New Jersey Development Academy club founded by Tab Ramos, and supported the Newark youth program run by St. Benedict's Prep, whose turf replacement and floodlight installation Altirs funded.

Altirs said his venture in Germany can lead to opportunities for players in his U.S. clubs.
"That is the first reason we were looking for a cooperation in German soccer," Altirs said.
