Gayle Smith
When Gayle Smith joined PrimeTime Fitness in November 2009 (at the encouragement of Robie Scott, coworker and PrimeTime member since before the very beginning!), she wanted to accomplish three things . . . regain mobility and flexibility that had been lost as the result of an injury to her shoulder, lose enough weight to feel comfortable in tucking in her blouses, and to achieve "Michelle Obama arms." Gayle at work Gayle looking happy and healthy at work! Well, Gayle's trainers and instructors think she's doing pretty good at meeting her goals. Being a "newbie" in the gym, Gayle immediately enlisted the help of a trainer, which she believes makes all the difference. After participating in small group training and PrimeTime Spin classes, her shoulder has regained mobility and strength, she's lost fifteen pounds and is back to tucking in her shirts, and old friends have commented on the noticeable definition in her arms. Arriving at the gym on most days by 6:00 a.m., she admits that sometimes it's difficult to get up and go. Instead of rolling over in bed, however, she focuses on the results. Not only the physical benefits, but the psychological benefits as well. Gayle claims that her exercise program helps her think more clearly and feel less stressed during the day. Gayle attributes her success to the encouragement she receives from everyone at PrimeTime. She enjoys the size and intimacy of the facility, and the new friends she has met in the gym. Of her early morning drive, Gayle states, "it's pretty cool driving over, early in the morning to watch the moon's reflection on the intercoastal waterway. Driving home, she's a different person, feeling better and ready to take on the day. After leaving the gym, Gayle heads off to work as Director of Advertising for the Post and Courier. She moved to Charleston from Hickory, NC, where her husband Young still works as an attorney....they've managed to commute happily for 21 years! Their two children, Jennifer and Mary, both live in Charlotte, and between the two of them have blessed Gayle and Young with four lovely grandchildren. When she's not exercising or working, Gayle enjoys reading and taking in the performing arts in Charleston. She often relaxes with long, brisk walks on the beach, and finds pleasure in cooking for her friends (although you'll never find her preparing anything with mushrooms . . . one healthy food she hates!). Words of wisdom? Gayle has quite a few . . . She has learned to set a goal, surround herself with others who will help her reach her goals, and be patient. Her personal motto is to always try to do the right thing. Gayle also finds it important to reach out and help others - someone has always been there for her, and she knows how it feels to have a helping hand every now and then. She encourages others to take care of themselves in mind, body, and spirit, so as to be in the best position to help others. It's evident to everyone who knows her that Gayle has discovered a new lease on life. Her demeanor, her shape and size, and even the style of her clothes have all changed for the better in the last year. Her thoughts on the matter? Gayle states, "PrimeTime is giving me back my youth. Truly." Thanks, Gayle! Keep up your hard work. Member Spotlight - Gayle Smith [cached]
