The Chief Instructor of the
Alliance of International Wado-ryu is
Gary E Swift 7 th Dan.
Gary Swift was born in Plymouth, Devon, in 1956.
He started training in 1966 at the early age of 10 at
his junior school.
Upon his arrival to the South of England in 1972 he started Wado-ryu Karate with the United Kingdom Karate-do Federation (UKKF), later to become the United Kingdom Karate-do Wadokai (UKKW).
Regular instructors at this time included Suzuki Tatsuo Hanshi, Maeda Tadayuki Sensei, Shiomitsu Masafumi Sensei and Kobayashi Katsumi Sensei.
From this day onwards
he also studied numerous other forms of Karate, as well as Shorinji-kempo, Muay-Thai, Malaysian Thoi-kuen-do, Korean HoSin-sul Hapkido, various weapons systems, and a variety of other Japanese, Korean, and Chinese martial-arts.
Today
he is holder of numerous titles and ranks in martial-arts including
7th Dan in Wado-ryu Karate, 2nd Dan in Korean HoSin-sul Hapkido, and 1st Dan in Malaysian Thoi-kuen-do (Taekwondo).
He is the Founder-President of the Alliance of International Wado-ryu (AIWa est. 1982), and Chief Instructor to the Domei Kokusai Wadokai (DKW est. 1976).
He is also recognised within the
World Union of Karate Organisations (WUKO), the
English Karate Governing Body (EKGB), the
Federation of English Karate Organisations (FEKO), the
Martial-arts Development Commission (MADEC), the
British Karate Association (BKA), the
Malaysian Pugilistic Federation (MPF), the
Amalgamated Warrior Arts Union (AWA), and the
Korean Martial-arts of South East Asia-Pacific (KOMA-SEA-PAC).

Gary E Swift (7th Dan) Saiko-Shihan is the highest graded Wado-ryu Karate instructor in the Southwest recognised by the Wadokai England Karate Federation (which is affiliated to the Japanese Karate Federation Wadokai).
