Gary McDonald joined the Canadian Foreign Service in 1977 and has served overseas at Canadian diplomatic missions in Yugoslavia, Israel, India and Kenya.
He joined the Passport Canada in 1993 and is now the Director General, Policy and Planning.
Since 1996, he
has also chaired the International Civil Aviation Organization's New Technologies Working Group and as such, is tasked with the development of international specifications and standards for travel documents.
He has a BA in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario, a BA in Economics from the University of Waterloo and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Carleton University.
