Gary Barwin is a writer, composer, and performer.He is the author of numerous books and chapbooks of poetry and fiction including the poetry collections frogments from the frag pool: haiku after basho (written with derek beaulieu) and Raising Eyebrows and Outside the Hat (Coach House Books) and the fiction collections Doctor Weep and other strange teeth, Big Red Baby (The Mercury Press) and Cruelty to Fabulous Animals (Moonstone Press).He is the author of The Mud Game, a novel written with Stuart Ross (The Mercury Press).Barwin is also the author of several books for children including Seeing Stars, a young adult novel (Stoddart Kids) nominated for an Arthur Ellis Award and the CLA YA Book of the Year, and Killer Poodle Made Me Island King (Fox Meadow), co-winner of the Muskoka Novel Marathon 2003.Barwin received a PhD in Music Composition and currently teaches music at Hillfield-Strathallan College and creative writing at McMaster University.Barwin lives in Hamilton, where he has cultivated vague but colourful illusions about his writing.Please don't tell him.

Gary Barwin
Gary Barwin PhD is a writer, composer, multimedia artist, educator, and the author of 17 books of poetry and fiction as well as books for both teens and children. His work has been widely performed, broadcast, anthologized and published nationally and internationally, and has been commissioned by the CBC. His latest book is Moon Baboon Canoe (poetry, Mansfield Press, 2014).
Barwin is winner of the 2013 City of Hamilton Arts Award (Writing), the Hamilton Poetry Book of the Year 2011, and co-winner of 2011 Harbourfront Poetry NOW competition, the 2010 bpNichol chapbook award, and the KM Hunter Artist Award. He has received major grants from the Canada Council and the Ontario Arts Council for his work.
His YA novel, Seeing Stars, was shorted listed for both the Crimewriters of Canada Arthur Ellis Award as well as the Canadian Library Association YA Book of Year, and his picturebook, The Magic Mustache, was chosen as a "Best Bet" by Macleans. Barwin has given hundreds of readings and performances in Canada and internationally. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario with his family and a fear of the family car.
