Garry Handley is a road safety team leader at Gloucestershire County Council, which works together with the police in the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership.
He believes that the latest figures show the danger of using a phone while behind the wheel of a car is hitting home for many drivers. He goes as far as to advocate turning your mobile off before you decide to switch on the engine of your car - to avoid any distraction. He said: "We are delighted and we hope this is an indication that motorists are finally getting the message that it's totally unacceptable to use a mobile phone while driving.
