Garrett Scanlan, creator of the "Garrett's Downtown Deli" concept is a European-trained Master Chef who, after thirty-plus years spent at the very top of the culinary world, has turned his sights to developing a food service outlet that offers accessability, affordability and an exceedingly high standard of product.
Born in Dublin, Ireland into a family of restauranteurs, Chef Scanlan began working in his father's restaurant while still in grade school. This led to a formal apprenticeship in the culinary arts in some of the finest kitchens in Europe - Ireland, England, Spain, Switzerland and France.
While competing in the European Culinary Olympics (Hotelympia) in 1976, (at age 19, the youngest competitor in the history of the competition.), Chef Scanlan was recruited by the Hilton Hotel Corporation and brought to the United States.
He has been in the U.S. since 1978.
Chef Scanlan has proudly worked in some of the most prestigous kitchens around the world - The Grosvenor and Marco Pierre White in London, Le Chateau in Berne, Switzerland, The Mansion on Turtle Creek, Dallas, and, of course, his own property, Garrett's on Water Street, Boyne City, MI.
