In closed session at its November 20, 2012 meeting, the Board discussed the matter of the employment of County Assessor, Garrett Alexander. This position is a Board-appointed position. The Board was informed that Mr. Alexander had offered to resign his appointed position as County Assessor (which expires on June 30, 2013), effective immediately on the condition that he be allowed to remain in the employment of the County and be reassigned to another position. After the County Manager indicated that he thought that he could find another position that Mr. Alexander would be qualified to hold, the Board voted to accept the resignation under the condition offered by Mr. Alexander and directed the County Manager to reassign Mr. Alexander to vacant position within the County outside of the Assessor's Office.

In closed session at its December 4, 2012 meeting, the Board received an update that Mr. Alexander had formally tendered his resignation to then-Board Chairman Harold Cogdell, who accepted the resignation, and furthermore that Mr. Alexander had been reassigned to a senior fiscal analyst position in the Human Services Finance Division of the Financial Services Department (Finance Department). In closed session at its December 4, 2012 meeting, the Board received an update that Mr. Alexander had formally tendered his resignation to then-Board Chairman Harold Cogdell, who accepted the resignation, and furthermore that Mr. Alexander had been reassigned to a senior fiscal analyst position in the Human Services Finance Division of the Financial Services Department (Finance Department).

In this position Mr. Alexander is supervising County staff responsible for processing invoices for the functions within the Human Services Agency. Based on his education and prior work experiences, Mr. Alexander is qualified to serve in this position. His current salary in this new position is $98,500. Based on this reassignment, Mr. Alexander is no longer a Board-appointed employee and reports up through three management levels to the Finance Director Dena Diorio.

Mr. Alexander's salary as County Assessor was $122,395.
Also at its December 4 meeting, in closed session, consistent with GS 143.318.11 and GS 153A-98, the Board authorized the County Manager to release the confidential aspects of above information if he concurred with the Board's determination that the release of the information is essential to maintaining public confidence in the administration of County services or to maintaining the quality of County services.
