Gair MacKenzie - News Director news@wmwv.com
Gair is great and it's nice to hear him as well. I heard Gair Mackenzie play a song by Dawes 3 or 4 days ago that sounded kinda funky( I loved it!) and doesn't appear to be on their new release Nothing or their CD from 2009. Gair MacKenzie Thanks for listening, Gair MacKenzie Gair MacKenzie

Gair MacKenzie - News Director & Morning Drive Co-host
Gair MacKenziewas born in New York City but convinced his dad to move the family out to the Connecticut suburbs when he was three years old. e attended schools in Darien before moving to Westfield New Jersey for a few years, where he landed a plumb job as a high school sophomore at The Music Staff, one of two record stores in town. It was there he developed a fierce passionfor all kinds of music and enjoyed seeing concerts by artists like Bruce Springsteen, The Allman Brothers Band, Renaissance and Loggins and Messina. Returning to Connecticut, he graduated from Darien High School and then attended Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, where he earned a bachelors degree in English. He then became the head counselor at Camp Owatonna in Harrison, Maine, a boys summer camp he and his brothers enjoyed attending for many years. From there, he played bass and sang for a year in a band fronted by popular singer songwriter Carolina Edwards, who had previously scored a top 10 hit in Nova Scotia. He was then commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy and served on various ships over a 12-year period as a surface warfare officer and public affairs officer, before resigning as a lieutenant commander. During his Navy career, he did advance work for the first-ever NATO ship visits to Bulgaria and Estonia - and even arranged for his ship squadron to rent the official Olympic Stadium in Barcelona for a day! After matriculating at Boston University - and earning a masters degree in broadcast journalism - he worked briefly at WLBZ News Center Two in Bangor, Maine as a general assignment television reporter. He started working at WMWV in December 2006 as news director and on-air radio reporter and enjoys writing, interviewing interesting people and using sound - for news stories and drive time interviews about the people and events in the valley area and western Maine. He also enjoys almost daily "critter encounters" during his commute from western Maine. In his spare time - of which he has very little - he enjoys reading (news and non-fiction), listening to music, boating and weeding.
