Gair MacKenzie - News Director & Morning Drive Co-host
Gair MacKenziewas born in New York City but convinced his
dad to move the family out to the Connecticut suburbs when he
was three years old.
e attended schools in Darien before moving to Westfield New Jersey for a few years, where he landed a plumb job as a high school sophomore at The Music Staff, one of two record stores in town.
It was there he
developed a fierce passionfor all kinds of music and enjoyed seeing concerts by artists like Bruce Springsteen, The Allman Brothers Band, Renaissance and Loggins and Messina.
Returning to Connecticut, he graduated from Darien High School and then attended Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, where he earned a bachelors degree in English.
then became the head counselor at Camp Owatonna
in Harrison, Maine, a boys summer camp he
brothers enjoyed attending for many years.
From there, he
played bass and sang for a year in a band fronted by popular singer songwriter Carolina Edwards, who had previously scored a top 10 hit in Nova Scotia.
He was then commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy and served on various ships over a 12-year period as a surface warfare officer and public affairs officer, before resigning as a lieutenant commander.
Navy career, he
did advance work for the first-ever NATO ship visits to Bulgaria and Estonia - and even arranged for his
ship squadron to rent the official Olympic Stadium in Barcelona for a day!
After matriculating at Boston University - and earning a masters degree in broadcast journalism - he worked briefly at WLBZ News Center Two in Bangor, Maine as a general assignment television reporter.

in December 2006 as news director and on-air radio reporter and enjoys writing, interviewing interesting people and using sound - for news stories and drive time interviews about the people and events in the valley area and western Maine.
also enjoys almost daily "critter encounters" during his
commute from western Maine.
spare time - of which he
has very little - he
(news and non-fiction), listening to music, boating and weeding.
