Sunday Celebration Notes from Gail Benson
The other selection is an encore performance from the Young People's Concert at the request of Gail Benson, who will be celebrating her final Sunday with us as our transitional pastor.
This Sunday, June 23rd, will be Rev. Gail Benson's final Sunday with us. She has done a wonderful job shepherding us through this time of transition. She has previous commitments, including General Synod and Pilgrim Pines, this summer. She will be leaving us in John Forrest's capable hands until August 15, at which time Rev. Elena Larssen will join us. Gail's Ministerial Support Team will host a farewell reception in the Ramsay Dining Hall right after the service on Sunday. Please come downstairs after the service and say goodbye to Gail. Refreshments will be served.

Sunday Celebration Notes from Gail Benson
Now we are ready to welcome Rev. Gail Benson. She joined our staff on Monday as our transitional minister and will help shepherd us as we wait to call a new senior minister. Gail is very experienced in working with churches during times of change. Many of you know her and will be happy to greet her this Sunday. There will be a special treat in her honor during First Church Café. Read more about Gail in Pam Chapin's article below.
Many of you already know Gail through her internship at First Church under MaryEllen Kilsby and her subsequent impressive ministries with United Church of Christ churches.
Gail earned her MDiv from Claremont School of Theology and is an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ. Her focus has been on professional transitional ministry and she has served in that capacity for 13 years of her 22 years of ministry. She pastored six churches as a transitional minister and worked two years as the Executive Director for Pilgrim Pines Camp and Conference Center. Gail also served as staff with the California Council of Churches as Southern California Director of Health Care, organizing the faith community to achieve meaningful health care reform.
Gail's expertise includes the processes of clergy boundaries, the journey of grief, older adult ministries, conflict management, healthy congregations and appreciative inquiry. She has experience as a hospice chaplain, a college admissions counselor and marketing staff at a bank, and has a passion for justice for all of God's creation.
Gail is married to the Rev. Dr. Bill Peterson. She is an avid photographer and gardener and celebrates her role a grandmother.
The search committee and church council believe Gail has unique qualities, gifts, and experience to begin First Church's journey of new beginnings.
Please join us this Sunday to give Gail a First Church welcome.

Gail Benson
Last Sunday we marked another milestone on our journey as we said good-bye to our Transitional Senior Minister, Rev. Gail Benson. Gail had been with us since Jerry's retirement celebration at the end of January. During those five months she has listened to our stories of grief and hope, officiated at memorial services for beloved members, helped to assess our needs going forward, worked with a new associate minister, sought to prepare us for change by bringing a new style to the pulpit, worked with DAYS and UCO to be sure their contracts were in order, and prepared a book of information for our new minister. Mostly, she listened to us and loved us.
